Affiliate disclosure

How this site is funded, what it means when you click a link, and where that relationship stops.

This page describes our current affiliate relationships and is reviewed periodically.

The short version

  • FirePitSpot is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.
  • Some links on this site are affiliate links. Clicking one and buying something may earn us a commission.
  • You never pay more because a link is an affiliate link. The price is the same either way.
  • Commission potential does not determine which products we cover or how we rank them.
  • We do not accept payment from brands for placement or a favorable review.

Our participation in the Amazon Associates Program

FirePitSpot is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

In practice, this means that some links on FirePitSpot, including "Check price on Amazon" buttons and certain in text product mentions, are affiliate links. If you click one of these links and make a qualifying purchase, Amazon pays us a small commission. This applies whether or not the item you purchase is the specific product the link pointed to, since Amazon's tracking cookie can apply to other items added to your cart during that shopping session.

What this does not change for you

Using an affiliate link costs you nothing extra. The price you pay on Amazon is identical whether you arrive through our link, a different site's link, or by searching for the product directly. The commission comes out of Amazon's margin, not out of your pocket.

How this does and does not influence our content

We are direct about this because it matters: FirePitSpot earns money when readers buy products we link to. That is a real incentive, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. What we control is how we manage that incentive:

  • We do not accept payment for placement. No brand pays to appear in a buying guide or to be ranked higher than a competitor.
  • We include pros and cons on every product we recommend, not just favorable points, including in our top picks.
  • We do not inflate specifications or claims to make a product look better than its own documentation supports.
  • Products we cannot verify a claim for are marked as such in comparison tables rather than assumed to meet the higher standard.

More on how we choose and evaluate products is in our how we test page and our editorial policy.

Other potential affiliate relationships

In addition to the Amazon Associates Program, FirePitSpot may participate in affiliate programs with other retailers or brands in the future. If and when that happens, this page will be updated to reflect it, and any such links will follow the same disclosure standard described here.
